Interview with the director of the Miraculous series about 100th episode.
Tomas Astruc, creator, writer and director of the animated series, talks about the 100th episode of the adventure, which will air on TF1 on Sunday at 9:35 a.m. local time.
TF1 began airing Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir on October 15, 2015. Today, the channel broadcasts the episode "Ephemeral," which is the 100th episode of the series, continuing its success, as the series is watched by an average of 41% of children ages 4 to 10 (data for 2021). And we had the opportunity to follow the story of this phenomenon with Tomas Astruc, the idea creator, creator and director of the series!
How would you describe the 100th episode in general terms?
We've tried to answer the question many of our viewers have - what happens when Marinette and Adrian discover their superhero identities? I hope our viewers enjoy this story. Either way, this episode is something unreal. Who would have thought that one day we'd be writing as much as the hundredth episode, and, to top it off, working on writing the script next!
As a creator, what do you remember about the beginning of your show's journey?
It's all about realizing how far we've come. You have to realize that when we launched the series, it was something that broke the usual patterns a little bit. When we got the idea for the project, the main female characters weren't that popular. Plus, the story takes place in Paris, and when you connect something so closely to a culture, it seems like people from other cultures don't recognize themselves in it. Also, when I explain the principle of the series, no one understands it. Luckily, they trusted me, and I showed them how it works with the first episode. Anyway, at one time it was completely incomprehensible. And now the show is understandable to everyone!
How did you come up with Ladybug?
It all started with a joke on a friend of mine. She had a ladybug t-shirt and I drew her as a superheroine. I'm a very big comic book fan, I read every comic book that comes out. And I thought - there hasn't been a ladybug superheroine anywhere yet, so maybe we should do something. One thing led to other ideas, and I started coming up with characters and a universe for them. And now it's kind of slipped my mind. And it's for the best!
TF1 is currently airing its fourth season. Are you already working on the next one?
Yes, and even a sixth! Season five will be the end of the first story arc. That doesn't mean it's the end of the series, just that we'll start a new story arc.
Ladybug and Cat Noir have already traveled to New York and Shanghai. Will there be any other places they will visit?
We're supposed to visit Brazil, specifically Rio, and a few other places in that country. We're just working on that right now. We hope to have a screening in early 2023.
Eventually, all those characters that will be met in different countries will want to have their own series. How far will this project go?
It will definitely happen. The channels and co-producers are very happy with the idea. There is a very good chance that we may soon see a spin-off of the main series.
Old information below:
The Brazilian trailer for the episode "Ephemeral" (the 22nd in the timeline).
The premiere will take place November 7 on the French television channel TF1.
Adrian discovers his father's secret. And we're getting another "identity reveal" teaser, which probably won't happen after all, and here's where the theories as to why:
Bunnix's alternate timeline, which will fix Ladybug.
Someone's character's dream.
It's a large-scale illusion of Trixx.
It's a real episode, but the Felix will be the character we see in trailer.
it's one of Ladybug's side powers.
The Felix theory seems especially accurate, in the context of the spoilers from the concept art.
